Shelby Free is a junior at Stuttgart High School in Stuttgart, Arkansas, which is known as the rice and duck capital of the world, as well as the home of the World Champion Duck Calling Contest. Shelby began duck calling at the age of 5, first instructed by Ms. Pat Stephens, the only woman ever to win the World Champion Duck Calling Contest, as well as the "Champion of Champions" title. Butch Richenback, founder of RNT Calls, also a former World Champion and "Champion of Champions", continues to coach Shelby. Shelby has competed and placed in numerous duck calling contests, winning her first World title as Jr. Women's World Champion at the age of 13. Shelby captured her second World title the following year, winning the Women's World Championship, being among the youngest ever to do so. In 2008, Shelby won her second Women's World title, placing her only one title away from retirement in women's competition. Shelby hopes to add one more trophy to her collection. However, this will not stop Shelby from competing! Shelby will turn 17 in July and is already attempting to qualify for this year's World Champion Duck Calling contest against the men, hoping to add her name to Ms. Pat Stephens as the only women ever to win the coveted title. Shelby enjoys duck hunting with her dad. Or rather, she enjoys calling in the ducks while her dad does most of the shooting! However, Shelby has no problem pulling the trigger on a limit of mallards. With Shelby's duck calling ability, there is no shortage of invitations to go duck hunting. Shelby is often invited to accompany her dad, who is a guide at a local duck lodge in Stuttgart, AR. Like most high school students, Shelby enjoys hanging out with friends and attending local events. She is a Stuttgart High School Ricebirds cheerleader, and enjoys cheering at the football and basketball games. Shelby is also on the Senior dance team, and often competes in dance competitions as well. Shelby works part-time at her church daycare. Shelby is an honor student and plans to attend the University of Arkansas upon graduation in 2010.
