1) What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming waterfowl season?
For the upcoming waterfowl season, my dad and I have put down buckwheat and millet in our ponds so that ducks can come and use it to feed. We are also getting ready to camo the blinds for our upcoming youth hunt. We'll use natural grass that is around our hunting area so that it looks as natural as possible. As for decoys, we're getting ready to rig up all of our new Drake Waterfowl Double Duty Decoys. Those decoys will add a lot of motion to our spread when we use them without the keel.
2) Where do you hope to hunt on opening day? What do you like about that spot, and do you have any good memories of hunting there that you can share?
My dad and I plan to hunt at our lease in Mound City, Missouri, on opening day. This is where we get most of our ducks and we always have a great time with friends and family members. The memories I have of hunting this blind are some of the best hunts I've been on in my life. The one hunt that comes to mind first is when we took my grandfather out on his first hunt on a snowy day in 2007 and we shot nothing but greenheads. What made that hunt the best hunt for me is that my grandfather still talks about it to this day.
3) Are you taking any friends hunting with you this year? If so, are they lifelong hunters or new to the sport?
One friend I'll be doing the most hunting with is Taylor Scott. He and I have been friends for about 4 years now and have some real good times hunting together. We plan to go on this year's youth hunt on October 24th to open up the season. Our most memorable hunt together was when we went goose hunting, just me and him, on his dad's back ten acres. The best thing about the hunt was that we set up everything and got our limits by ourselves.
4) What else do you have going on this fall?
The one thing besides hunting that I'm looking forward to is going to football playoffs. We have a new coach at Shawnee Mission East and if we win our next two games, we could make it to the playoffs. This would be great opportunity for the team and our new coach to form and to grow together.
